SURFING IN Pacifica, California, USA

Only a short drive from San Francisco are the rocky and wild shores of Pacifica, CA.  Pacifica surf is not for the faint hearted.  The wind is usually pretty stiff, the water is always freezing cold, and there are strong rips that will give you more than your fair share of a workout.  The good news...there are almost always waves here and the coastline is full of protected coves and beaches so you can pick and choose the surf depending on your surfing abilities and that day's surf conditions.

Alternative Surf Spots

Rockaway Beach is close by but much more exposed to rock and strong currents.  Best on a day when there is little wind.

Ocean Beach is closer to San Francisco - in fact it's right next to Golden Gate Park, but the conditions here can be really tough with lots of wind and a very strong rip current.  Also, there is no way to get to the waves except the long paddle out and plan to get a world-class workout getting through all the crashing jetsam.
