Surfing in Ichinomiya, Japan

The site of the first surfing in the Olympics, Ichinomiya, Japan has very consistent and large surf.  There are a few different spots to choose from.  This one described here is my favorite.  Note that there are really not many hotels in the area, maybe this will change with the Olympics coming.  AirBnB is your best bet.  Also, don;t expect to find many people here that can speak English as a second language so practice a few key Japanese phrases before arriving.

Break Type:  Beach

Gear: Light Wetsuit

Ambience:  There are a few spots to choose from.  They are all fun.  The mellowest surf in the crowded spot called out below.  The beaches here remind me of remote Northern California beaches.  They are very rugged and undeveloped.  The water is surprisingly warm though, which was a nice surprise.
